Situating itself in three fragments of a possible fiture, this project investigates the transformation of human consciousness in the age of biotechnology and beyond. The proposal adopts and modifies Susan Blackmore’s system of memetics and notation for describing replicators — R1 genes, R2 memes, R3 temes, and so on.
The subtitle, “Architecture in the Age of the Mind Picture,” is a reference to Heidegger’s 1939 essay, “The Age of the World Picture.” This project addresses a similar paradigm shift — the increasing continuity and flexibility of the human mind, as enabled by emerging technologies.
